Charge "ERL"-2773 , bisphenol A, first portion of DCO acids, lithium naphthenate, and xylene to still fitted with agitator, condenser, water trap and inert gas inlet. Blanket reactants with inert gas and heat rapidly to 390F and allow exothermic reaction to occur. (A rise of 85-100F will occur in approximately 5 min. Refluxing of the added xylene will control this exotherm). Cool to 460F and hold at this temperature 30 min. Add the second portion of the DCO acids and the triphenyl phosphite and heat rapidly to 480F. (It may be necessary to drain off part of the xylene originally added to r each 480F.) Hold at 480F with vigorous xylene reflux to Z viscosity at 50% n.v. in 85/15 "Solvesso" 150/diacetone alcohol (about 4-4 hr). Thin to 50% n.v. with same solvent blend. |
