A paddle-type stirrer is preferred for formula 1 to prevent aeration. A higher-speed mechanical mixer may be used to make the liquid creams.
1. Melt the stearic acid, "Carbowax," polyethylene glycol monostearate, and lanolin and heat to 70C. Then add the terpineol.
2. Dissolve the potassium hydroxide in about an equal weight of water, add this solution and the triethanolamine (Where used) to 1, and stir until most of the soap is in solution. Heat to 70C.
3. Heat the water to 70C. and stir it into 2 or stir 2 into the water, if more convenient. Continue stirring until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.
4. Add the propylene glycol and "Cellosize" (hydroxyethyl cellulose) and continue the slow stirring until the cream has cooled to about 40C.
Then stir in the zinc stearate and the perfume.
5. The cream can be packaged at 40C. as it retains a better consistency than when allowed to cool to room temperature before packaging. The liquid creams (Formulae 2 and 3) should be stirred |
