In the laboratory, the sealant is compounded in a sigma blade mixer.
Amorphous polypropylene is premixed with twice its weight of polybutene to facilitate complete dispersion. (This premixing may not be required in commercial scale equipment.) Additions to the mixer are made in the order of listing of materials. The entire mass is then mixed for 1 h after the last addition.
Note: Amoco H-300 Polybutene contributes oxidation resistance and permanent pliability to this nondrying sealant tape formulated without asbestos. This type of sealant should find application in concealed joints for mobile homes, recreational vehicles, and trailers. |
