Using a heavy duty mixer, add hydrocarbon resin solution, rosin,
thixotropic agent into mixer. Mix until a smooth, heavy paste is
obtained.
Add half of buty-rubber solution, the titanium dioxide, calcium
carbonate, and magnesium silicate in that order, mixing until smooth and
homogeneous.
Add remaining half of butyl-rubber solution, mixing well.
Add Stoddard solvent in increments, mixing well.

To prepare caulks and sealants based on Rhoplex LC-40, closed sigma-blade, "Ross", "Pony Mixer," "Ribbon Blender", or similar type high-shear, low-speed mixing equipments are recommended. The caulk ingredients should be added slowly to the mixer in the order listed.
Addition of the "Triton" X-405 immediately after the "Rhoplex" LC-40 is desirable to stabilize the emulsion and prevent excessive thickening during addition of the plasticizer and extender. After addition of the last ingredient, the lid of the mixer should be tightly sealed to prevent water loss. Total mixing time of about one and a half hours is recommended. |
