Above is mixed in duplex mixer at 230F. The reclaim rubber is then added and masticated for 15 minutes, first at 33 and later at 84 rpm.
Next, the rosin derivative are added to the mill, and after 15 minutes of mixing the mill is cooled to 190F. The speed is reduced to 50 rpm and the clay is then added slowly. After another 15 minutes of mixing, the mill is cooled to 175F. The mill speed is then reduced to 33 rpm and the calcium carbonate and antioxidant are added slowly to the batch.
After 5 more minutes of mixing, the toluene is added over an 8 to 10 minute period. The mill is cooled to 100F., at which time the asbestos is added. Following 10 minutes of mixing, the n-hexane is added slowly to the mix. After solvent addition, the mastic is allowed to mix for an additional 5 minutes. |
