All ingredients are heated to 190-195F. with agitation and then cooled to the final operating temperature of 130-150F. This formula gives an adhesive the viscosity of which is remarkably stable on aging.
The addition of 10% urea-formaldehyde resin solids (on total solids) to the above adhesive prepared without the caustic soda gives an adhesive suitable for use in waterproof board which will withstand prolonged soaking in water without delamination. Such a mixture must, of course, be used with an appropriate catalyst such as one of the ammonium salts. |
