Dissolve sodium hydroxide in the water. Dissolve resorcinol in sodium
hydroxide modified water. Add formaldehyde and mix five minutes. Let
stand two hours at 75-78F before combining with latex.
To prepare the latex-resorcinol-formaldehyde fabric treatment compound,
use the following typical recipe and procedure.

Formaldehyde (37%)/6.0
Sodium Hydroxide/0.1
Resorcinol/4.1

Add latex to water. Add resin masterbatch slowly to mixture with constant slow agitation for 5 min. Add ammonium hydroxide to adjust pH to 10.3. Continue agitation at least 10 min. Let compounded dip stand 16 to 18 hr at 75-78F before using. Maximum shelf life is 96 hr at 75-78F.
Apply the latex-resorcinol-formaldehyde compound to a fabric by common saturating techniques. Cure from one to 5 min at 285-350F.
Moisture content of the fabric should be less than 2% after drying. |
