Seal-coat the backside of the flannel with a continuous film of latex. Prepare a 5% stock solution of "Carbopol" 934 resin and add the latex when the solution is homogeneous. Neutralize to pH 8 with ammonium hydroxide. Stretch the flannel cloth, with backside up, over a glass plate. Apply a portion of the thickened latex over the entire area as a 15 mil coating. Cure for 10 min at 250F. Whip the remaining thickened latex in a Hobart Mixer equipped with a wire beater. After 5-8 min of high speed agitation, the emulsion will expand to approximately 500% of the original volume. Pour the whipped latex over the cured seal-coat of the flannel. Set the doctor blade so as to coat the fabric with a 25 mil coating. Place a polyurethane foam slab quickly over the latex and hold fast for 10 sec with a glass plate. Cure the asembly 10 min at 250F. |
