Warm the water to 150 to 180F., add the ammonium hydroxide, then the "Carboset" 525 with mild agitation. Mix just enough to give good fluid turn-over. High shear mixing of this solution produces excessive foaming. Anti-foam agents normally interfere with "Carboset" coating adhesion.
The above order of addition is important.
Curing the Coating The reaction between "Carboset" 525 and "Cymel" 300 requires a bake. On metal panels, such as carbon steel, galvanized steel, copper and aluminum, the foregoing recipes cure in 15 to 20 minutes at 200F., after the film is dried. Indications are, however, that the substrate affects the rate of cure. In a paper saturation study, for instance, adequate cures are obtained in as little as 3 minutes at 175F. Higher temperatures always shorten the cure time. |
