An interesting possibility, from the method of application
standpoint, is the solvent type adhesive that is of a suitable spraying
viscosity. When correctly applied, a smooth uniform adhesive film is
obtained from which the solvents will evaporate quite evenly and
rapidly. Adhesives of this type are widely used in those applications
where a high rate of production and efficiency is required.

The "neoprene" AC is broken down on a cool, tight mill for 10 minutes. The magnesium oxide, "Nevastain" A, and zinc oxide are then added. The batch is removed from the mill, cut into small sections and dissolved in the methyl ethyl ketone-mineral spirits mixture along with the modifying resins. Generally a ratio of 2:1 mineral spirits-methyl ethyl ketone blend is needed to bring the finished adhesive solution into a suitable spraying viscosity range.
Other previously shown formulations can be made suitable for spray-type applications with adjustments in solids content and solvent balance. |
