It is not practicable to test every garment and guesswork frequently results in the application of a harmful solvent, causing damage.
Consequently, an efficient spotter will use on all garments only those chemicals which are safe on all fabrics. If the available safe chemicals are ineffective, then and then only should harmful chemicals be considered for use and only after a test of the fabrics has been made to determine the fiber content. There are now available so many efficient safe chemicals that no spotting department will be inconvenienced by adopting this procedure. The saving in time due to the elimination of testing and the freedom from damage to garments are added reasons for adopting a safe policy in the spotting department. |
