Badly soiled glass curtains are seldom cleaned satisfactorily by dry cleaning alone, even though soap is used in the washer. Wet cleaning is often necessary, but it is well known that this cannot be easily carried out on French pleated or ruffled curtains. Where petroleum solvents are used, soaking of the curtains in a strong soap solution may be employed which is far superior to methods which involve only dry cleaning. This process is particularly recommended for those articles which can be wet cleaned only with difficulty.
A break run of 5 to 10 minutes is suggested to remove surface soil, following which the curtains are soaked in a strong soap solution containing 2 lb. of paste soap to 3 gal. of solvent, overnight or less.
this treatment is followed by a rinse inn solvent. Alcohol should not be added to the soap used in this soaking. Where prolonged soaking is not deemed necessary, badly soiled areas may be hand brushed with a paste soap solution for satisfactory results.
