Cresylic acid emulsions have been specified for use as engine-carbon
removers. The usual type of emulsion is made with large percentages of
soap. These emulsions are quite stable at room temperature, but tend to
break down at 55C. which is the temperature at which the carbon-remover
emulsion works with the greatest efficiency. The usual soap-type
emulsions also tend to develop a great deal of foam, which is
uncontrollable, particularly when used in automatic spraying machines. |

This is actually a soluble oil which can be emulsified readily at 55C to give a highly efficient carbon remover. The emulsion formed by this soluble oil is not too stable at room temperature, but at 55C.
it does form an unusually stable emulsion which meets the requirements.
Since there is no free soap in this formula, the formation of sodium cresylate is eliminated and thus, additional free cresylic acid is available for the active cleaning job. In addition, the foaming properties of this formulation are such as to cause little difficulty. |
