Berry and fruit stains on washable fabrics may be removed by applying a glycerine or soapless shampoo and then rinsing. Tobacco stains on the floor suc cumb to a cleaning solution consisting of equal parts of alcohol and glycerine. Dried coffee spots on carpeted floors may be treated with warm glycerine diluted with two or three parts water; then scrubbed and rinsed.
Removal of lipstick or rouge stains from cloth is eased by pretreatment with glycerine, followed by usual laundering. A generally similar procedure assists in eliminating lead pencil markings from fabrics (mothers of school-age children, take note!) If deeply imbedded rust stains on vinyl-asbestos floor tile do not respond to the ordinary soapscrub procedure, try applying a thick poultice made of one part sodium citrate crystals to six parts water with an equal volume of glycerine.
