While the above formulations suggest 8 volumes of solvents to 1
volume of Petromix as an average dilution, the volume of solvents may be
increased or decreased depending upon the severity of the cleaning
operation.
A clear transparent soak type emulsifiable cleaner is as follows
Trichlorethane/22 gal
Kerosene/18 gal
Isopropyl Alcohol/5 gal

the above formulation can be used full strength or further diluted with water.
Small metal parts are usually soaked in the cleaning solution whereas, in the case of heavy machinery, the solution is sprayed on. the cleaning solution is left to penetrate for a while and, where necessary, the surface is brushed to facilitate the removal of dirt and grime that is caked on the metal. The metal surface is then thoroughly rinsed or flushed with water and dried either manually or by exposure to hot air. |
