Add potassium Stearate Slowly at about 160F to ensure complete dispersion.
These emulsions are easily prepared with heavy-duty mixing equipment, such as a Baker-Perkins-type mixer with steam or hot-water jacket.
Dispersion of emulsifier in "Vistanex" should be complete before water is added, and is facilitated by heat. The water should be added slowly at the start to ensure a uniform emulsion. Stability of such emulsions is often improved by addition of 0.5 to 1% of alkali metal salts or hydroxy compounds. Preparation of emulsions of "Vistanex" MM is somewhat more difficult, mainly because of the elastic properties of these polymers. Plasticization with well-broken-down rubbers, thermoplastic resins, oils, solvents, etc. greatly aids the process. Emulsions of MM grades of "Vistanex" can be prepared directly in a Banbury mixer, or by a two-step process, first mixing the "Vistanex" and emulsifiers with enough water to plasticize in a Banbury or on a rubber mill, then adding the rest of the water in a |
