After preparation of the feed to desired size, the ore is conditioned at 70% solids with 0.5 to 3 lb of Pamak 4 per ton of ore, and 1 to 2 lb of fuel oil per ton of ore. the exact amount required will depend on the characteristics of the particular phosphate rock being used. After floating the phosphate from the silica, the float is "scrubbed with sulfuric acid (essentially an acidification to remove the fatty acid film from the surface of the phosphate particles) and washed with water. Enough caustic is then added to the washed material to raise the pH to 7.5, and the remaining silica is floated from the phosphate using 0.1 to 0.2 lb of a primary amine and 0.3 to 0.5 lb of kerosene as collectors per ton of feed. This is an example where the desired product is first floated from the impurities, followed by a reversal of conditions and flotation of the remaining impurity from the desired product. |
