Carefully disperse the Carbopol 934 in half the water and neutralize with the sodium hydroxide. Disperse the graphite in the remaining water and carefully stir this dispersion into the neutralized Carbopol 934 mucilage.
This suspension has a viscosity of 9,720 cps (Brookfield, 20 rpm) and displays no flocculation or settling on aging. It is important, however, that the mucilage be neutralized to at least pH 9 before the addition of the graphite dispersion or flocculation and settling will occur. |
