These formulations are utilized as follows: Sharp writing, long run, non-beading, electromatic and printing purple As basic dyestuffs are organic in nature, they are heatsensitive.
Therefore, avoid excessive heating. As they are also water-soluble and the vehicles are hydrophobic, incorporation of water in the ink invariably gives rise to an unwanted emulsion. Furthermore, such moisture as is in the ink may also produce excessive viscosity or even possible decomposition. Ground (finished) inks should, therefore, be stored under moisture-free conditions, or if this is not possible, should be reground (warm) immediately before use.
Spirit inks may be processed either in a ball mill or on a roller mill.
Procedures vary from plant to plant. Some companies premix their inks inn a slow-speed mixer and follow with a roller mill grind of sufficient length to ensure complete dispersion. Others premix, ball mill for a few hours and then finish with several mill passes.
