Two approaches may be taken in formulating such a sealant. If manufacturing facilities permit operation under low humidity conditions, the entire formulation may be processed in one operation. If, however, plant operations are subject to periodic humidity fluctuations, a three step formulation procedure is suggested in order to provide maximum package stability. the first step consists of processing the entire formulation except for the activators (CaO2 and BaO) under normal plant conditions. Unless humidity conditions are abnormally high, package stability should not be seriously impaired. In the second step, the activator components are compounded into a low viscosity paste under low humidity conditions. The third step consists of blending the product of steps one and two and packaging the finished sealant under dry conditions. |
