Electrolytic Method Caustic-gluconate solutions make very effective electrolytic derusting and descaling baths. The combined chemical action of the solution and the vigorous scrubbing action of the liberated hydrogen or oxygen (due to the electrolysis of the solution) result in the rapid removal of rust and scale.
Effective electrolytic caustic-gluconate solutions can be prepared by using 4 to 9 parts (by weight) of caustic soda for every one part (by weight) of sodium gluconate or gluconic acid. The concentration of the caustic-gluconate mixture can be varied from 8 to 48 ounces per gallon.
Due to the vigorous gassing of electrolytic solutions it is not necessary or desirable to use wetting agents in the bath. |
