Disperse the Carbopol resin in water. Add the sodium hydroxide solution. Add the gluconic acid solution. Stir until all the gluconic acid dissolves.
Final pH is 11.5 and Brookfield viscosity at 20 rpm is 3700 cps. This remover is easily and neatly brushed on any metal surface. Depending on the thickness of rust, the solution should stand for one to 10 min before being rinsed off. for light films a minute is sufficient.
Eye and skin contact is to be avoided due to high alkalinity. The product is odorless and there are no fumes or odors attendant with its use. Any residue on equipment or tools can be removed with water.
Only the rust is removed by the solution, while the metal is left clean, bare and otherwise unaffected. The solution is excellent for applications where any change in dimensions must be kept to a minimum. |
