The bleaching solution is prepared by dissolving 20 parts by weight of ammonium bicarbonate in 80 parts by weight of 35% hydrogen peroxide.
The white ammonium bicarbonate crystals are to be dissolved in the hydrogen peroxide just before using.
NOTE: This solution is especially sensitive to copper which is solubilized by the ammonium ion. No brass, monel or bronze should be used in contact with the solution. further, the solution should be kept at or below 75F during use.
As the bleach imparted to the wood by any application techniques is of limited depth, it is suggested that the wood be sanded to specifications before bleaching. However, a slight amount of sanding is allowable after bleaching.
The solution may be applied to the wood or panels by conventional techniques of spraying or sponging. cycle time after application of the bleach solution may vary from one-half to two hours.
