"Baymal" appears to be a very effective thickener for solutions of metal salts of monovalent anions. the salts with which it is most effective are those having neutral or acidic pH in solution. The "Baymal" must first be separately dispersed in water before mixing with the salt solution. Where conditions require, the dry salt can sometimes be dissolved directly in the sol of "Baymal." A few typical examples with Zn Cl2 and NaCl are given below: 1. 40 g of an 8% sol of "Baymal" sol was mixed with 20 g of 50% ZnCl2 solution. 40 g of solid ZnCl2 was added and stirred until dissolved. Result: A smooth paste. (50% ZnCl2) (3.2% "Baymal").
2. 20 g of a 5% sol of "Baymal" was mixed with 20 g of 50% ZnCl2 solution. 20 grams of solid ZnCl2 was added and stirred until dissolved.
result: A viscous, thixotropic solution. (50% ZnCl2) (1.67% "Baymal").
3. 20- g of a 5% sol of "Baymal" was mixed with 25 grams of 20% NaCl solution. 12 g of solid NaCl was added and stirred until dissolved (pH 4.2). Result: A vis |
