By employing synthetic fluids as the oil component, greases can be manufactured which possess superior work stability. Synthetic fluids, esters of dibasic acids (as sebacic, adipic and azelaic), or polyoxyalkylene glycol di-esters or silicones, demonstrate low pour points and low viscosities at extremely low temperatures as well as high flash points and low volatility at high temperatures. Such unusual properties are particularly desirable for the lubrication of aircraft at high altitudes and of all types of mechanical equipment operating at temperature extremes.
Good oxidation stability: Lithium hydroxystearate has proven superior in producing the high strength gels required for the successful manufacture of synthetic greases. Since most synthetic lubricants are susceptible to saponification, the incorporation of a preformed soap into the composition is necessary.
