1. Put 500 grams of the material into a mixmaster-type mixer. (Be sure that the material is at or above room temperature.) Mix at moderate speed.
2. Add 100 grams of hot (170-180F.) 30% solution of Swifts Technical Protein Colloid.
3. Continue mixing until the mass starts to cool and beads or pellets begin to form. As mixing continues in the orbital beater, the pellets or beads become smaller. After about 10 minutes, approximately 50% are in the 40-60 mesh range. Do not over mix, as prolonged mixing will break up the formed prills or beads.
4. Screen to pre-selected size.
Rate of water solubility may be reduced by spraying the beaded or pelleted material with a suitable aldehyde.
Uniform particle size of organic chemicals dissolved in an organic solvent may be obtained by dropping the material into a saturated salt solution containing Swifts Technical Protein Colloids. Controlled processes can produce yields of over 80% uniform particle sizes. |
