Typically, cordage oils constitute up to 15% of the finished weight of the rope and are used as a fiber lubricant during manufacture and use and as a water repellent during use. the oils must be perfectly stable and not subject to mold growth. As a rule a 20% blend of wool grease degras or crude wool grease in mineral oil gives these properties. In the better grades of rope made from fiber we have supplied LANFRAX because of its low odor and light color. The percentages of the blend of the lanolin and the mineral oil vary. However, the 20% figure for the lanolin product is fairly typical. |
