A low-cost industrial gear lubricant providing a Timken pass of 60 pounds is made with 1% Dibenzyl Disulfide and 1% Lead D-1401 in a suitable mineral oil.
This formulation gives additional benefits in that Dibenzyl Disulfide is also an anti-oxidant which reduces sludge formation. Lead D-1401 is a special lead naphthenate that will not emulsify and hold water in the lubricant.
A good lubricant for hypoid gears in automotive and truck differentials is 4% "Beta-Chlor" 33 and 0.5% "Car-A-Van" 6140 or 6145 in an S.A.E. 140 lube stock. this lubricant gives a Timken pass of 50 pounds.
Another lubricant system providing good load-carrying properties is 5% "Car-A-van" 6140 or 6145 and 3% Lead D-1401 or Lead Naphthenate 30% in a suitable mineral oil. Use Lead D-1401 if water comes in contact with lubricant to prevent water emulsion formulation. |
