The high amount of casein is used to obtain a wax test between 8-10.
Mixing tickets should be written in such a way as to give a total of 100 lb dry pigment either expressed as such in pounds of dry pigment or giving the number of pounds as paste equivalent to 100 lb dry. This will facilitate checking the amounts of all other ingredients used, especially the amount of casein. Pigment pulps and previously dispersed pigment powders should show the percent of solids on the mixing ticket.
This will enable the colorman to see that the right amount of binder is present.
Some mills record the total volume of the mixture in gallons, others give the final percent solids of the mixture.
Composition of a Coating Color: The usual order of mixing the ingredients of a coating is as follows: 1. Weigh out or measure out the prepared clay slurry.
2. Add the prepared pigments (with water and sulfonated castor oil).
3. Add any aniline dye dissolved in water.
4. Mix well and add 2-4 pt ammonia |
