The polyethylene glycol inhibits the solution so that it attacks only the peaks of the microscopically jagged surface, leaving the low points untouched. This leveling action results in smoothness and brightness. The three liquids in this solution are miscible at any temperature. The solution itself requires only a low voltage, is nonhazardous and nearly odorless, and does not form any sludge. In addition, it has good throwing power and good deburring action. It produces a highly passive surface and gives a bright luster to both nickel-chrome and plainchrome steels. |
