The solvent is divided into two equal parts. One part is heated to 210/220F with the waxes and the mixture is stirred and held at that temperature for ten minutes, or until complete solution is obtained. The second part of the solvent is then added, cold, to this mixture with constant stirring. There should be no evidence of crystallization in the mixture upon completion of the addition of the cold solvent.
Crystallization is indicated by cloudiness in the mix. After all the solvent has been added, the temperature of the mixture should be approximately 160F.
The final mixture is now cooled, with stirring, to 142F. It is then poured into containers and allowed to set up. The solution should be maintained at 142/143F during the pouring cycle.
Caution:---The recommended operating temperatures are above the flash point of the solvent. Avoid open flames or sparks which could cause ignition of the solvent. |
