Melt the wax and fatty acid together at 100-105C under agitation.
Add the amine, which has been preheated to 70C; sufficient amine must be added to completely neutralize the wax and fatty acid. Adjust final pH of the slurry with concentrated ammonia to produce a slightly alkaline condition. With continued agitation add the mixture of solvents, silicone oils, and resins, preheat to 60-65C, and slowly cool the batch to room temperature or the pouring temperature.
Add the zinc ammonium octoate solution, prepared by adding 10 parts zinc octoate to 90 parts NH4OH, to the cooled batch (pH 9.0 min.). |
