A typical solution is prepared as follows: To 124.1 g of 40% THPOH* solution (62.05 g of 80% THPC**, 10.42 g NaOH, 51.63 g H2O), cooled by a water-ice bath, 17 g of Cu(NO3)2.3H2O is added. After complete dissolution of the copper salt, 34.5 g of concentrated ammonium hydroxide is added slowly with stirring to the cold mixture. The TMM*** (204.9 g) solution (30%) is then added and the resulting solution is used for padding. During the addition of the copper salt and ammonium hydroxide, it is important that the temperature (of the solution) be kept under 40C.
Fabric samples are padded through the treating solutions using two dips and two nips with the squeeze roll pressure adjusted to obtain 85 to 90% wet pickup.
Wetted fabrics are cured for 10 minutes (in a forced draft oven) at temperatures ranging from 130-160C immediately after padding. The cured fabrics are then rinsed in running tap water for 15-30 minutes, dried, equilibrated and weighed to determine approximate percent resin add-on.
