The optimum temperature of the desizer bath solution is 160F. This will facilitate penetration and enzyme solution pickup. The water should be brought to 160F., sodium chloride added (8 lbs. per 100 gallons of solution), mixed, and the surfactant added and mixed into the solution.
The desizer enzyme is then added and mixed into the solution.
If a closed steam coil is available for heating the pad box or desizer bath to 160F., lower makeup temperatures (140F.-150F.) would be preferable. This will enhance the thermostability of the enzyme and give maximum desizing efficiency. It would be advisable that each makeup solution be utilized in 1 to 2 hours. Strict cleanliness of equipment should also be practiced, with the makeup tank and desizing equipment washed thoroughly at least once a shift.
The pH of the desizer bath should also be checked initially and intermittently during the operation and should be pH 6.5-7.0 for maximum desizing efficiency. Due to the high alkalinity of some waters, it |
