Its ability to neutralize cloth after mecerization is another example of ammonium bifluorides effective neutralizing ability. The pH of the dried cloth can be left at a pH of 5 after the neutralization treatment to improve fixing of acid dyestuffs. users have expressed the opinion that more brilliant colors are possible, therefore, with ammonium bifluoride souring than with conventional acidifying agents without fear of tendering the cloth.
Processing involves passing the cloth through a treatment tank containing the Ammonium Bifluoride solution. the solution is normally held at a concentration of 0.25% and a temperature of 140F (60C) to minimize cost and corrosion. The stainless steel rolls (Type 304 or 316) which direct the cloth in the treatment tank are resistant to Ammonium Bifluoride solutions of 0.5% or lower concentration at 140F. And to 2% or lower concentration at room temperature.
