The "Baymal" is first thoroughly dispersed in the water with rapid stirring, after which the barium hydroxide is added. A pre-blended mix of the calcium aluminate (for example, Alcoa CA-25 cement) and calcined or tabular alumina, e.g., Alcoa-2; Reynolds R-2003, or Alcoa T-61, is then added with slow-to-medium stirring, followed shortly thereafter by the frothing agent. After whipping to full height at high speed, the lime-water mixture is added, also with continued high speed whipping, and when thoroughly homogenized and refined the forth is ladled into the mold as soon as possible. Drying and firing to 3100F. |
