Make-up a 10% solution of the nitrile rubber in the automatic diluent using a Cowles Mixer. If a high shear mixer is not available, the solution may be made-up on the rolls-heat will help dissolve the rubber. Dissolve the inyl resins in ketone solvent and remaining diluent (if "Exon" 450 is formulated, heat may be required. High shear mixing should be employed). Add desired amount of nitrile rubber solution to the vinyl resin solution along with the remaining ingredients and ball mill. The use of MPA requires heat to properly disperse the thixotrope.
It may be desirous to make a predispersion of the thixotrope although this step is not required. Ball mill to an N.S. fineness of 6-8. |
